Rappahannock Goodwill Industries (RGI) provides work opportunities, job training, and employment search assistance to people with disabilities and other barriers to employment. RGI serves the City of Fredericksburg and a 12-county region. RGI serves our region through employment assistance at the Goodwill Job Help Centers, a commercial laundry, off-site custodial and administrative services, outsourcing and contract services, Goodwill stores, an outlet, and numerous attended donation centers.

Last year, Rappahannock Goodwill Industries provided assistance to more than 3,300 people and contributed nearly $26 million directly to the region’s economy with an economic impact of over $50 million. RGI is able to help those who need it most thanks to donations of gently used items that are sold in the Goodwill stores, funds from commercial services operations, and financial contributions.

The University of Mary Washington, founded in 1908, has long been recognized as one of the nation’s outstanding coeducational public institutions with its residential campus in Fredericksburg and a second campus in Stafford, where graduate and professional courses are offered. The University, with a total enrollment of nearly 5,000 students, is known for its commitment to academic excellence, a strong undergraduate liberal arts program and dedication to life-long learning and professional development.

The University opened its Dahlgren campus in January 2012; it serves as an anchor for developing educational and research partnerships among Naval Support Facility Dahlgren, the business community and state higher education institutions. While extending its reach, the University maintains a strong tradition of giving back to the Fredericksburg area community by hosting a wide range of cultural events, including the Great Lives Lecture Series, the UMW Philharmonic Orchestra concerts, theatrical performances and art exhibitions. The University of Mary Washington Foundation, established in 1975, is a non-profit corporation, whose purpose is to accept, manage, and administer private resources supporting the mission and priorities of the University, and to provide opportunities for students and an extra margin of institutional excellence unavailable with state funds.

Through the past years, private gifts to the Foundation have supported scholarships, academic programs, student activities, campus buildings, campus enhancements, and special events for Mary Washington alumni. In addition, the Foundation supports the community.

The Foundation owns more than 750,000 square feet of residential and commercial real estate in Fredericksburg and more than 450 acres of land in the region. Among its recent accomplishments, the Foundation continues to develop Eagle Village, a 23-acre pedestrian-friendly, residential and retail mixed-use village in Fredericksburg. It includes Eagle Landing, an apartment-style residence complex for students, as well as a Hyatt Place hotel; office, retail and restaurant facilities; and a multi-level parking garage.
