Fredericksburg, Va.— Christopher Stoia has been named Rappahannock Electric Cooperative’s (REC) newest Managing Director – Engineering & Power Supply. Chris brings an extensive background in engineering, grid operations, and reliability having spent over 26 years in the energy utility industry. Coming from Mountain Electric Cooperative in Tennessee, Chris served as General Manager since 2021 and as Director of Engineering & Operations beginning 2020.

In this senior leadership, Chris will oversee REC’s Engineering, Transmission and Substation departments and promote REC’s culture of safety. This includes the maintenance and growth of REC’s electric grid. He also will lead REC’s power supply team, ensuring that members have safe, reliable and affordable electricity.

Chris holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University. During his early career, Chris was an electrical engineer for various electric utilities including South Carolina Electric & Gas, Marlboro Electric Cooperative, and the South Carolina Public Service Authority. Chris has been a licensed professional electrical engineer since 2001, and is licensed in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, and Virginia.

REC provides electric service to over 172,000 connections in parts of 22 Virginia counties. With its general office in Fredericksburg, Va., the Cooperative operates and maintains more than 17,000 miles of power lines through its service area, which ranges from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
