(Fredericksburg, VA) July 17, 2026 – Within the last week of July, the City will begin the next phase in
development of its Water and Sewer Master Plan with the start of citywide field investigations. The
engineering consultant, Sullivan Donahoe & Ingalls, P.C. (SDI) will be conducting manhole inspections
throughout the City’s wastewater collection system. As part of this effort, SDI personnel will inspect
sanitary sewer manholes located within streets, easements, and public rights-of-way throughout the
City.
Field investigations are expected to last approximately four to five weeks and will generally occur during
normal weekday business hours (8:00 am – 4:30 pm). The consultant’s vehicles will be marked
appropriately, and personnel will have the required attire and identification. Temporary traffic control
measures may be used in some locations to ensure the safety of both motorists and field crews.
The work will not interrupt water or sewer services. Brief lane closures or minor traffic delays may occur
in isolated areas during the inspection process. Efforts will be made to minimize impacts to residents,
businesses, and the traveling public.
The Water and Sewer Master Plan is a long-range planning project that involves the evaluation of the
City’s existing water distribution and wastewater collection systems, will identify current and future
infrastructure needs, and will help prioritize needed improvements that will support reliable utility
services and to support the community’s long-term growth.
