[FREDERICKSBURG, VA] The Community Foundation awarded $25,000 to the Northern Virginia Conservation Trust (NVCT) to support its land conservation efforts in Stafford

Stephanie Hanchey, President of The Community Foundation Board of Governors, said we are, “thrilled to award one of our 25th anniversary grants in the amount of $25,000 to the Northern Virginia Conservation Trust.” Funding allows a dedicated NVCT employee working to promote comprehensive land preservation in Stafford County. “This project is accessible, inclusive and sustainable,” explained Teri McNally, The Community Foundation’s Executive Director.The Northern Virginia Conservation Trust is a nonprofit land trust that strengthens and
forever conserves the land, water, and scenic character of our service area. NVCT’s vision is to conserve land that has natural, historical, and cultural value to our communities.
NVCT has played a significant role in the protection of over 4,000 acres of natural areas in Stafford County for all time. This includes assisting with the creation of Crow’s Nest Natural Area Preserve, managing a valuable NVCT-owned nature preserve that protects wetlands near Interstate 95, and stewarding conservation easements that protect key lands and waters from ever being developed. NVCT hopes to allow all county residents access to parks and open spaces near them, even as development pressures and the
effects of climate change threaten to make that difficult. This funding supports Stafford County’s Strategic Plan and the Purchase of Development Rights (PDR) program. Stafford County government will provide support through a five year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NVCT. The Community Foundation is reviewing applications for the final round of anniversary grants that will award an additional $75,000 in the areas of education, health and human services as it continues to celebrate 25 years of advocating for philanthropy in the
