Spotsylvania County Public Schools continues to showcase the power of Work-Based Learning through strong partnerships and real-world opportunities for students.

At the Fredericksburg Area Builders Association (FABA) President’s Gala, SCPS Work-Based Learning was proudly on display. Students from the Spotsylvania Career and Technical Center (SCTC) Carpentry program crafted the award plaques presented during the event, while SCTC Culinary students added a sweet touch by preparing their signature Cowboy Cookies. Experiences like these highlight School-Based Enterprise at its best, where students apply their skills on real projects for real partners.

SCPS leadership is also gaining national recognition. Emily Hall was recently selected to serve on the National Work-Based Learning Leadership Alliance for the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE), helping shape the future of work-based learning across the country.

Career exploration continues through SCPS Career Chats, where students connect directly with industry professionals. During a recent session, Turner Construction shared insights about the wide range of career opportunities within their organization and the many pathways students can pursue in the construction industry. These conversations help students better understand the skills, education, and experiences needed to succeed in today’s innovative, technology-driven workforce.

Local businesses interested in inspiring the next generation and showcasing their industry are encouraged to partner with SCPS for a future Career Chat. Organizations can connect with Nia Hodge at [email protected] to learn more about getting involved.
