For nearly four decades, OmniRide has helped keep Northern Virginia moving by providing safe, reliable, and flexible transportation options that connect people to work, healthcare, education, shopping, and countless other destinations. Operated by the Potomac Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC), OmniRide is more than a transit provider. It is a vital partner in strengthening our regional economy, improving mobility, and enhancing quality of life.
Keeping Our Region Connected
For more than 39 years, OmniRide has grown alongside the communities it serves, expanding routes and services to meet the needs of one of the fastest-growing regions in Virginia. Every day, its commuter buses connect residents in eastern Prince William County, Front Royal, Warrenton, Stafford, and Spotsylvania to major employment centers throughout Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., offering a convenient, affordable alternative to driving.
Beyond commuter service, OmniRide’s fare-free local bus routes in Prince William County provide residents with access to jobs, healthcare, schools, shopping, and other essential services at no cost. The organization also offers paratransit services for individuals with disabilities, microtransit in select communities, ridesharing support, and employer commuter benefits programs, ensuring transportation remains accessible for people at every stage of life.
By reducing traffic congestion and lowering carbon emissions, OmniRide continues to create positive impacts that extend far beyond the roadway.
Transportation That Changes Lives
While buses connect communities, it’s the people behind the service who make the greatest impact.
At a community outreach event last year, OmniRide employees met Jose and Mercedes, a couple who had recently relocated to the Woodbridge area. After discovering OmniRide’s local bus service, they decided to give it a try—and quickly became regular riders.
Jose recalls their first experience:
“My wife and I got a bit lost, and the driver went out of her way to guide us and make sure we caught our connecting bus. That kind of kindness left a lasting impression on us. For me, as a senior, that human touch and support from the staff really makes a difference. OmniRide has truly made getting around easier and more enjoyable.”
The couple praised the reliability of the service, the accessibility of the buses, and the friendliness of the drivers. Since then, they’ve encouraged friends and neighbors—especially newcomers and those who don’t drive—to use OmniRide.
As Jose and Mercedes put it:
“It’s not just a way to get from one place to another—it gives people the independence and confidence to move around their community. For us, it’s been more than transportation; it’s been part of feeling connected and supported in a new place.”
Stories like theirs demonstrate that transportation is about much more than getting from point A to point B. It’s about creating opportunity, independence, and community.
