Fredericksburg, Virginia, August 22, 2025 – Beginning Monday, September 8, the elevator at the Fredericksburg Branch of Central Rappahannock Regional Library, located at 1201 Caroline Street, will be out of service while the City of Fredericksburg begins a full elevator replacement.
The work is expected to last at least four weeks, though it may last longer depending on delivery schedules and construction progress. “The elevator is vital for customer access to the branch’s books, computers, and homework help. We’re very grateful to the city for approving this much-needed renovation,” said Executive Director Rebecca Purdy.
Fredericksburg Branch will stay open during the project, but there will be no elevator access to any floor. While both stairwells remain open, this may create challenges for both library customers and employees. Customers can check the website and social media for updates. Library staff recommend these alternative ways to gain access to materials during this time:
- Consider using the Library’s curbside pickup service.
- Visit another library location to pick up holds or return items.
Fredericksburg Branch Manager Craig Graziano commented, “This elevator is the oldest and most heavily used that the City of Fredericksburg maintains. It was installed in 1990, and we have hundreds of customers who use it on a daily basis. The Fredericksburg Branch team is working hard to keep services running smoothly during the project.”
Thank you for your patience as we work with the City of Fredericksburg to complete this vital upgrade.
