| Fredericksburg Virginia, August 29, 2025 – On Tuesday, September 2, Central Rappahannock Regional Library will launch a new Library on the Go van, serving Westmoreland County residents. The Westmoreland Library on the Go vehicle brings essential library services throughout the county, including computer, printing, and wifi access; holds pickup and a browsing collection; classes and events; and research support.
Director of Adult Services Tracy McPeck describes the service, “We work with community organizations and look at demographics to identify locations that can benefit the most. This service has regularly scheduled stops offering library services to those who cannot easily access a physical branch, with a focus on older adults.”
Central Rappahannock Regional Library currently has two other Library on the Go vans that have been serving the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Stafford and Spotsylvania.
The initiative for a new van was made possible by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). This $50,000 grant was used to purchase a vehicle to expand CRRL’s Library on the Go initiative into Westmoreland County.
CRRL also received $2,785 from Northern Neck Insurance’s Community Grant Program to help with the purchase of technology for the van, a $2,500 grant from William Cage Library Trust to purchase books, a $1,000 sponsorship from Topside Credit Union for the van’s custom branding, and $500 from the Friends of the Library’s Giving Tuesday fundraiser.
Starting in September, the van will make regular stops at senior apartments, assisted living facilities, community centers, and other selected locations. At each stop, customers will be able to:
- Pick up holds and browse a rotating collection of books to check out
- Use laptops, wifi, and a printer
- Get help with research and technology questions
