For many small business owners, managing the day-to-day demands of running a business leaves little time to dig into financial reports, forecast cash flow, or develop long-term financial strategies. DuroSec was created to help bridge that gap, giving entrepreneurs access to both reliable financial management and the strategic guidance they need to make informed decisions.

We spoke with DuroSec about its approach to management accounting, the financial challenges facing small businesses, and the importance of having a trusted financial partner at every stage of growth.

What inspired you to start DuroSec, and what gap in the market were you hoping to fill?

DuroSec was born from one strong belief: small businesses deserve more than basic bookkeeping, but many aren’t ready for the cost of a full-time CFO.

I wanted to create a firm that bridges that gap by combining accurate financial management with the strategic insight business owners need to make confident decisions.

Small businesses are the backbone of our community, yet so many owners are expected to navigate complex financial decisions without someone they can trust by their side. My goal has always been to provide more than accounting services. I wanted to build a firm that serves as a true partner, helping business owners understand their numbers, identify opportunities, avoid costly mistakes, and gain the confidence to focus on growing the business they worked so hard to build.

At the end of the day, I believe every entrepreneur deserves a trusted financial partner who helps them spend less time worrying about the numbers and more time pursuing the “why” that inspired them to start their business in the first place.

DuroSec focuses on more than just bookkeeping. How do your management accounting and advisory services help business owners make better decisions?

Financial statements should be more than a report that lands in your inbox once a month. They should be a tool for making better business decisions.

That’s why DuroSec’s approach goes beyond bookkeeping. While keeping accurate, organized financial records is essential, the real value comes from understanding what those numbers are telling you. I meet with clients to discuss trends, identify opportunities, anticipate challenges, and develop strategies that support their long-term goals.

Every business owner has a vision for where they want to go, whether that’s hiring their first employee, opening a second location, acquiring another business, preparing for a sale, or simply figuring out why cash flow always feels tight. My role is to help determine whether those goals are financially achievable and build a realistic roadmap to get there.

I call it Management Accounting because bookkeeping is only the foundation. The real purpose of clean financials is to empower management to make informed decisions with confidence instead of relying on gut feelings or guesswork.

I love working with entrepreneurs who have big ideas. My job is to provide the financial clarity and strategic guidance that helps turn those ideas into sustainable, successful businesses.

What are some of the most common financial challenges you see small businesses struggling with, and how does DuroSec help solve them?

The two biggest financial challenges I see regularly are cash flow and poor financial reporting.

Many business owners are incredibly good at what they do, but they don’t always have the financial information they need to make confident decisions. They know money is coming in and going out, but they’re not always sure where it’s going, why cash feels tight, or whether they’re truly making a profit.

One of the ways DuroSec helps is through cash flow forecasting and management. I work with business owners to identify where cash is being used, uncover opportunities to improve liquidity, and create a plan that supports sustainable growth instead of constantly reacting to financial stress.

Another area I’m passionate about is pricing strategy. One of my favorite exercises is helping business owners understand what it actually costs to deliver their products or services, including overhead and other operating expenses, so they can price with confidence and protect their profitability.

I also help businesses build a strong financial foundation by cleaning up accounting records, improving reporting, and ensuring the numbers accurately reflect what’s happening in the business. Clean financials don’t just make tax season easier. They provide the insights business owners need to understand their margins, monitor performance, and make informed decisions throughout the year.

At DuroSec, we don’t believe every business needs the same solution. Our services are tailored to each client’s goals, challenges, and stage of growth. We strive to be the financial partner who fills the gaps, provides clarity, and helps business owners make decisions with confidence.

Your clients span several industries, including government contracting and professional services. How do you tailor your financial solutions to meet different business needs?

My background as a CFO in government contracting and program management gave me the opportunity to work with organizations across a wide range of industries, each with its own unique challenges and goals.

One of the biggest lessons I learned is that while every business is different, the financial fundamentals are remarkably similar. Every business needs accurate financial reporting, healthy cash flow, a clear understanding of profitability, and confidence that they’re staying compliant. The way we achieve those goals, however, looks different for every client.

A nonprofit may need guidance on grant funding and financial sustainability. A retail business may be preparing to expand into a larger location. A government contractor may need support with contract compliance, indirect rates, or project profitability. My job is to understand each client’s unique objectives and develop financial solutions that help them move forward with confidence.

This is why I spend intentional, one-on-one time with every business owner I work with. Understanding their vision, challenges, and long-term goals allows me to provide advice that goes beyond the numbers. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all package, DuroSec builds customized solutions that deliver the right level of support for each stage of a business’s growth.

My goal is simple: to become a trusted financial partner who helps business owners make informed decisions, solve problems, and build businesses positioned for long-term success.

Looking ahead, what are your goals for DuroSec and how do you hope to continue supporting the small business community in our region?

My vision for DuroSec is simple: to continue growing alongside the incredible small businesses that make our community so special.

As we expand, my goal isn’t just to serve more clients. It’s to build lasting relationships with business owners and become the trusted financial partner they can rely on through every stage of their journey.

I want to be the “finance girl” you can sit down with over a cup of coffee and talk about your dreams, your challenges, and your vision for the future. Whether you’re launching your first business, hiring your first employee, expanding to a new location, or preparing for retirement, I want DuroSec to help you create the financial roadmap to get there.

Small businesses are the heart of our local economy, and there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing entrepreneurs succeed. If DuroSec can play even a small role in helping business owners feel more confident, make better decisions, and achieve the goals that inspired them to start their businesses, then I’ll consider that a success.
