It has been an eventful season for our Career and Technical Education (CTE) department at Caroline High School (CHS), showcasing the profound impact of strong connections between our school and the local business community, as well as outstanding achievements in student competitions.
Automotive Students Accelerate Their Careers with Sheehy Ford
Our automotive program has forged a significant relationship with Sheehy Ford of Ashland. Initially offering exclusive, one-on-one shadowing experiences, this partnership quickly evolved into concrete job opportunities.
We are incredibly proud of students Bradley Martin and Lee Carty, who participated in an in-depth externship experience at the dealership. Their hard work and skills made a strong impression: both have been hired as interns and are set to begin their paid positions next week! This is a fantastic example of a shadowing experience turning directly into a career pathway.
Successful Career Expo Connects Students and Businesses
CHS hosted a highly successful Career Expo last Friday, November 14th. The event saw a tremendous turnout, with over 50 businesses from various sectors attending to meet our students, discuss career opportunities, and explore potential partnerships. The high level of engagement from the business community underscores the value they place on our students’ talents and our CTE programs.
DECA Shines at District Competition
Our DECA chapter competed in districts this past Thursday, November 13th, demonstrating impressive business and marketing knowledge.
Congratulations to senior Gabby Davis, who secured 2nd place in testing for Apparel and Accessories Marketing and finished 3rd place overall in her category. Additionally, Elizabeth Gonzalez achieved an excellent 2nd place on the testing portion for Retail Merchandising. Both students have qualified and will be moving on to the State Competition in Virginia Beach this coming February!
Marcus Ruffin Secures a Coveted Anton Paar Apprenticeship
We extend hearty congratulations to senior Marcus Ruffin, who was hired this year for a competitive apprenticeship with Anton Paar, a leading global provider of high-end measuring instruments. Securing an apprenticeship of this caliber as a high school senior is a remarkable achievement and a testament to Marcus’s dedication and the quality of his technical training here at CHS.
These successes highlight our commitment to providing students with meaningful experiences that prepare them for future careers and help them meet their graduation requirements through relevant, work-based learning. We thank our business partners for their continued support and investment in the future workforce.
Upcoming Event: Innovate and Elevate a CHS Showcase
We are excited to announce a unique upcoming event this February, the “Innovate and Elevate a CHS Showcase,” designed to bridge the gap between our students’ academic preparation and the needs of the modern workforce. This showcase offers local businesses a direct opportunity to see our students in action, provide invaluable feedback, and help us foster well-rounded employees for when they graduate.
