(Fredericksburg, VA) August 7, 2025 – The City of Fredericksburg is pleased to announce the adoption and publication of its updated Comprehensive Plan, Fredericksburg Forward, which was officially adopted by City Council on June 24, 2025. The Plan reflects the community’s vision for Fredericksburg’s future and serves as the City’s primary policy guide for planning and development over the next 20 years.
Over the past 18 months, the City’s Community Planning and Building Department, along with the Planning Commission and consultants Summit Design and Engineering and Stantec, worked closely with residents, stakeholders, and advisory groups to develop the updated plan through a robust community engagement process. This included pop-up events, neighborhood meetings, stakeholder focus groups, commissions and committee discussions, three citywide community meetings, an online survey and comment map, and a Comprehensive Plan Ambassador email campaign. Final consideration of Fredericksburg Forward included public hearings with both the Planning Commission and City Council.
Fredericksburg Forward is now available to the public in two formats:
PDF Document – View or download the full plan on the City’s Comprehensive Plan webpage: fredericksburgva.gov/939/Comprehensive-Plan
Interactive Online Tool – Explore the plan through an interactive, map-based platform that includes implementation tracking features: fredericksburgva.gov/forward
The City of Fredericksburg’s Comprehensive Plan is the official long-range policy document that guides the city’s future growth, development, and preservation efforts. It serves as a blueprint for decision-making related to land use, housing, transportation, infrastructure, economic development, environmental stewardship, historic preservation, and quality of life – all grounded in the priorities voiced by the community.
Residents are encouraged to explore Fredericksburg Forward and learn more about the shared vision shaping the future of our city.
