(FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) Aug. 31, 2026 – The City of Fredericksburg and Rappahannock Goodwill
Industries have entered into a new agreement that designates Goodwill as a vetted provider of
technology recycling services for eligible surplus electronics from designated City facilities.
The relationship supports City Council’s commitment to environmental stewardship by providing a
responsible solution for collecting, transporting and recycling surplus electronics through Goodwill’s
Tech Recycling Program, including Dell Reconnect. In addition to environmental benefits, this
arrangement offers a cost-saving benefit for the City by reducing disposal costs associated with surplus
technology.
The partnership will also help educate City staff and residents about responsible technology recycling
and which electronic items are accepted through Goodwill’s recycling and donation programs.
Beginning immediately, residents can recycle 20 types of electronics year-round through the Dell
Reconnect program at any Rappahannock Goodwill retail store or donation center. Please see the list of

Dell Reconnect is a free technology recycling program operated in partnership with Dell
Technologies. Since 2014, Rappahannock Goodwill Industries has responsibly recycled more than 2.2
million pounds of electronic waste through the Dell Reconnect program.

William Morris, Director of Public Works, said the relationship reflects the City’s commitment to
sustainability and public service. “Electronics and lithium batteries should not be thrown in the trash.
They contain hazardous materials and pose a fire risk. This new partnership is a significant step that will
make a meaningful impact, and we are proud to support this effort in our community.”
The relationship also includes plans to host a community electronics recycling event in 2027, providing
residents with an opportunity to responsibly recycle eligible technology items while learning more about
sustainable recycling practices. Together, these efforts make environmentally responsible electronics
recycling more accessible to residents across our community.
