Connecting Our Region: Transportation, Access & Opportunity

Transportation is more than roads and traffic. It is a critical driver of economic competitiveness, workforce access, housing, healthcare, education, and quality of life. As our region continues to grow, mobility challenges increasingly cross jurisdictional boundaries.

Join transportation planners, elected officials, business leaders, and community stakeholders for an important discussion on the future of mobility in the Fredericksburg region. The program will explore regional transportation trends, examine how Regional Transportation Authorities (RTAs) function, and consider whether an RTA could serve as a long-term solution for coordinating transportation across our region.

The event will begin with a keynote presentation from Ian Ollis, FAMPO Administrator and Director of Transportation Planning for the George Washington Regional Commission (GWRC). Ian will provide an objective overview of the region’s transportation network, current mobility trends, future challenges, and how Regional Transportation Authorities operate in other communities.

Following the presentation, attendees will hear from a panel of regional leaders representing Stafford County, Spotsylvania County, and the City of Fredericksburg, offering their unique perspectives on regional transportation opportunities and challenges. Confirmed panelists include:

  • David Goosman, Spotsylvania County
  • Pamela Yeung, Stafford County
  • Will Mackintosh, City of Fredericksburg Representative

The event will also feature updates from transportation leaders, including:

  • Charlie Payne, Commonwealth Transportation Board
  • Melody Fowler, Fredericksburg Regional Alliance at FXBGO
  • Kim Mitchell (or another representative from OmniRide)

Together, these speakers will provide attendees with a comprehensive look at transportation planning, regional collaboration, and the opportunities ahead for the Fredericksburg region.
