Fredericksburg, VA – The Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce welcomed nearly 650 high school and college students from across the region for its 4th annual Intern Expo, “Oh the Places You’ll Go,” on Wednesday, February 6th. Students from King George, Spotsylvania, Caroline, Stafford, and Fredericksburg, including those from homeschool and private schools, as well as college students from the University of Mary Washington and Germanna Community College, attended this dynamic career-building event.
With a record-breaking number of vendors, over 100 businesses participated, representing a diverse range of industries, including agriculture, construction, business management, education, engineering, finance, government, healthcare, hospitality, law, manufacturing, marketing, real estate, science, transportation, and more. In addition, 75 volunteers led engaging breakout sessions focused on mock interviews, creating a LinkedIn account, dressing for success and career assessments, ensuring students gained valuable hands-on experience.
“The Intern Expo was more than just an event; it was a gateway to unlocking the potential of tomorrow’s workforce,” said Carley Swaim Walker, Director of WorkForce NOW. “Over 100 businesses had the opportunity to engage with the brightest minds from our local schools, colleges, and universities. This interactive platform fostered connections, promoted collaboration, and provided a firsthand look at the talent shaping our region’s future. We are thrilled with its success and look forward to tracking the lasting impact of the connections made.”
Scholarship Opportunities for Attendees
Students who participated in the event now have the opportunity to apply for a $1,500 scholarship (two available). Applications are due by March 7th, 2025 with winners selected by the WorkForce NOW Selection Committee and notified on March 28th, 2025.
