Fredericksburg, VA – Friends of the Rappahannock (FOR) proudly announces an ambitious $1.1 million capital campaign to commemorate its 40th anniversary of safeguarding the Rappahannock River.
Since its inception in 1985, FOR has been a steadfast leader in environmental education, restoration, and advocacy. Now, as it celebrates four decades of impact, FOR is setting the stage for an even brighter future by revitalizing and expanding its headquarters and educational campus. This milestone project calls on the community to invest in the next chapter of river protection and education.
“We are celebrating forty years of incredible accomplishments, made possible by the dedication of this community. Thanks to your support, the Rappahannock remains the heart of our region,” said Friends of the Rappahannock’s Executive Director, Daria Christian. “Now, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to give back to the river that has given us so much. We’re calling on everyone who loves the Rappahannock to join us in investing in the next 40 years of FOR by supporting this transformative project.”
A Legacy Rooted in Community and Collaboration Nestled on the historic Fall Hill property, FOR’s headquarters has been a hub of activity and inspiration since 1995. Originally constructed in 1984 as the Rappahannock Outdoor Recreation Center, this cherished building has hosted tens of thousands of students and river enthusiasts. Today, it symbolizes the collective power of a community united by a love for the Rappahannock River. With this revitalization project, FOR aims to honor that legacy while addressing the growing needs of future river stewards. ________________________________________________________________
