NEW YORK – Minor League Baseball (MiLB) announced on Monday Fredericksburg Nationals INF Coy James has been named Carolina League Player of the Week for Week 19, August 4-9.
James, drafted by the Nationals in the fifth round of the 2025 MLB Draft from Davie County High School (NC), was named Gatorade Player of the Year in North Carolina for the spring of 2025. In his first full season as a pro, James is one of just three players to spend the entire season to date on the FredNats active roster.
A key piece of a 5-1 series win over Delmarva, James played in every game during the series, going 9-23, slashing .391/.500/.913 with a 1.413 OPS. James hit five extra base hits including a triple and three home runs, and walked five times to just three strikeouts.
James is the fourth FredNat to win a Carolina League weekly award, following Yeremy Cabrera (twice), Gavin Fien and Carson Fischer.
James and the FredNats continue their quest to defend their Carolina League North second-half title this upcoming week at Fayetteville. First pitch in Tuesday’s opener is set for 6:35 p.m.
