For more than five years, Dr. Kimberly Young has helped shape the Leadership Fredericksburg experience, bringing decades of leadership development, workforce and educational expertise to the program’s faculty.
Kimberly is no stranger to Leadership Fredericksburg. A graduate of the Class of 2019, she remained engaged with the program as a speaker and member of the Leadership Advisory Committee before joining the faculty in 2021. Her continued involvement reflects a commitment to developing leaders and creating stronger connections throughout the Fredericksburg region.
As Associate Provost for Career and Workforce at the University of Mary Washington, Kimberly provides vision and oversight for the university’s state and regional workforce initiatives.
Her experience in leadership development extends well beyond the region. Kimberly has worked with leaders through classroom-based and experiential learning in the United States, Canada, China and Malaysia. She was the founding director of the Bloch Executive Education Center at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, where she oversaw the Executive MBA, international programs and customized corporate education.
With more than 20 years of experience in leadership development and consulting, Kimberly has also worked with organizations including Ernst & Young and Aramark Corporation, with clients ranging from Coca-Cola and Garmin to Sprint, Eli Lilly and H&R Block.
Her commitment to leadership is equally evident in her service to the community. Kimberly is a senior fellow at the Institute for Learning Innovation, serves on the Board of Trustees of Mary Washington Healthcare System, co-chairs the UMW Women’s Leadership Colloquium and is the immediate past president of the Board of Trustees of the Community Foundation of the Rappahannock Region.
Kimberly holds a B.A. in Public Policy Studies from Duke University, an MBA and Master of Management in Hospitality from Cornell University, and a Doctorate of Educational Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University.
At the heart of Kimberly’s approach to leadership is a belief in service. Guided by the phrase, “to whom much is given, much is required,” she is dedicated to mentorship, service and creating connections that strengthen communities.
As Leadership Fredericksburg celebrates 20 years of developing leaders across the region, faculty members like Kimberly continue to make the program what it is today—sharing their experience, challenging participants to grow and investing in leaders who will help shape the future of our region.
