(Fredericksburg, VA) July 17, 2026 – Fredericksburg Parks, Recreation & Events (FPRE) is proud to announce a significant upgrade to its conservation efforts at Motts Run Reservoir Recreation Area, fueled by a $20,000 sustainability grant from The Jack O’Neill Fund for a Green Community of The Community Foundation.
This funding has enabled the department to successfully transition its field operations by acquiring a Landmaster AMP HD Ranch Edition all-electric UTV. This high-performance, zero-emission vehicle replaces a traditional gas-powered unit, directly supporting the City’s mission to reduce its carbon footprint and protect the local ecosystem.
Motts Run Reservoir serves as both a premier destination for hiking, boating, and fishing, and a vital protector of the watershed for the City’s drinking water. This new vehicle will assist staff with trail inspections, park maintenance, litter collection, and accessibility support for visitors while reducing reliance on fossil fuels
“This generous grant helps us continue making one of Fredericksburg’s most treasured green spaces even greener,” said Ray Parrish, Outdoor Recreation Operations Coordinator. “Motts Run Reservoir is a hidden oasis for our community, and investments like this help us protect the natural resources that make it so special”.
The arrival of the vehicle is the latest step in the City’s sustainability initiative at the reservoir. Recent efforts have included transitioning from gas-powered park tools to electric versions and upgrading boat rental power sources from lead-acid to lithium-ion batteries.
Fredericksburg Parks, Recreation & Events extends its sincere gratitude to the Community Foundation and The Jack O’Neill Fund for their ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship.
