FREDERICKSBURG – The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region will award more than $170,000 in scholarships to area high school graduates this spring. Seniors are invited to apply now through the foundation’s online application portal at www.cfrrr.org/apply/scholarships/. Applications must be submitted on or before 5 PM on Friday, February 16, 2024.
The Community Foundation administers more than 50 different scholarship funds on behalf of generous people in our community. We believe that investing in education for area young people is a powerful investment in our community’s future.
Scholarship opportunities are available to local high school seniors that plan to attend a 4-year or 2-year university or college, vocational school or career technical school. Students from Caroline, Fredericksburg, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford may apply. Each scholarship has different eligibility criteria: some support a specific county or school, some are for athletes or musicians, and others are for students in need or pursuing a particular field of study. The online application system helps students navigate the diverse opportunities.

The Christopher Donell Childs Memorial Scholarship Fund: A one-time scholarship of $1000 will be awarded an African American male student-athlete.
The Hall Family Scholarship Fund: The Hall Family Scholarship was established by Barry and Jeannette Hall to assist high school students at Falls Church High School and James Monroe High School. A one- time scholarship will be awarded to seniors who demonstrate good academic achievement and who will attend a college in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Randy and Tina Harris Family Scholarship Fund: This scholarship will be awarded to African American students pursuing a career in the workforce or trade industries. Applicants must be planning to enroll or
already enrolled in credentialed or certificate classes such as workforce (construction, manufacturing, technology), trade, or medical-related field.
The Anne Koepfinger Inspiring Educators Memorial Scholarship Fund: This scholarship is intended to promote and encourage students to pursue a career in the field of education and ultimately impact the lives of future students as a teacher.
The Dr. Lillie Pitman Scholarship Fund: Benefits first generation college students who are looking to pursue careers in healthcare from area schools.
The Henry Warden and Patty Shannon Scholarship Endowment Fund: A scholarship opportunity for first- generation college students from Spotsylvania County and the City of Fredericksburg. This is a four-year renewable scholarship opportunity.
The Paris B. Swisher Memorial Scholarship Fund: A scholarship for graduating students with significant participation in their community. Students must attend high school in Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania or Stafford and plan to attend Liberty University in Virginia. This is a four-year renewable scholarship opportunity.
