Students at The Oberle Academy recently had the opportunity to be part of something pretty special. Our carpentry students joined Micah Ecumenical Ministries, HomeAid National Capital Region, Atlantic Builders, and local building partners in the construction of the prototype home for Jeremiah Community. With the build taking place right here on Oberle’s campus, our students had a front-row seat to the project — and the chance to roll up their sleeves, work alongside professionals, and be part of something that will make a difference in our community.
Jeremiah Community grew from Micah’s many years of working alongside Fredericksburg’s unhoused neighbors. Their vision is to build a neighborhood where people have an affordable place to live while also finding connection, purpose, support, and meaningful relationships.
For our students, this is exactly the kind of experience we strive to provide at Oberle: hands-on and community focused. We are thankful to Micah Ecumenical Ministries, HomeAid National Capital Region, and Atlantic Builders for including our students and making them part of the team. Working alongside professionals gave our students the chance to build their skills while also seeing how their work can make a difference in the lives of others.
