(Fredericksburg, VA) December 17, 2025 – The Fredericksburg Area Museum (FAM) and the City of Fredericksburg invite the community to upcoming public presentations to review and learn about the proposed design for the new memorial at the former site of the historic Auction Block in downtown Fredericksburg. These presentations are part of the ongoing design process for a permanent interpretation of the corner of William and Charles Streets, where the Auction Block once stood.

The Auction Block, a significant artifact of local and national history, was relocated to the Fredericksburg Area Museum in 2020 to ensure preservation. FAM, with City support, has since engaged in a comprehensive process to develop a thoughtful and inclusive memorial design that reflects the community’s history and values.

In early 2025, following a nationwide search, FAM selected eo Studio, led by internationally recognized artist Eto Otitigbe, to lead the design phase. The design team has begun community engagement efforts and will present proposed design concepts during a series of public sessions scheduled for January 2026. These sessions will provide residents, stakeholders, and visitors an opportunity to view design materials, ask questions, and offer feedback prior to final design development.

“We encourage members of the Fredericksburg community to participate in these discussions and help shape the vision for this important memorial,” said Dr. Gaila Sims, Lead Project Consultant. “Public input is integral as we work toward a design that honors history, fosters understanding, and supports community reflection.”

Presentations are scheduled on the following dates:
