This year’s Next Gen Winter Soiree, held on January 24th showcased exactly what that vision looks like in action—honoring individuals who embody leadership, collaboration, and innovation while making a tangible difference in their industries and the Fredericksburg region.

Next Gen Entrepreneur of the Year
Next Gen Entrepreneur of the YearStarting a business is a bold endeavor, filled with risks but also boundless rewards—not just for the entrepreneur, but for the community they serve. Entrepreneurs spark economic growth, create jobs, and introduce new ideas and innovations, shaping a vibrant and thriving region.
This year’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year, George Barnick from Fredericksburg Technology, exemplifies the entrepreneurial spirit. Not only has George launched a successful business that supports other local businesses and provides vital services to the region, but he has also immersed himself in community leadership. George’s contributions include serving on numerous boards and committees, such as the Fredericksburg SPCA, Fredericksburg Main Street, and the Chamber Board of Directors, just to name a few. His dedication to our community is truly remarkable, and we are honored to recognize his impact.
Next Gen Community Impact Award
Next Gen Community Impact AwardThe Next Gen Community Impact Award celebrates an individual who tirelessly works to strengthen and connect the Fredericksburg region through charitable efforts, cultural initiatives, and community programs.
This year’s recipient, Sofia De Hoyos, has left an indelible mark on our community. From leading mission-driven collaborations, like the Rappahannock Regional Roots Project, to reinstating beloved programs such as Free Book Friday, her dedication knows no bounds. She’s spearheaded partnerships with organizations like the Fredericksburg Nationals, King George County Public Schools, and the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to bring initiatives like the first Latin Festival to life.
A Leadership Fredericksburg fellow, Next Gen Committee vice-chair, and an avid volunteer, Sofia exemplifies what it means to serve selflessly while driving impactful change. And with her most exciting new role—a soon-to-be mother—we know her future contributions will continue to inspire!
Young Professional of the Year
Young Professional of the YearThe Young Professional of the Year award recognizes extraordinary achievements by a young leader who is actively engaged in the Chamber and the broader community. This year’s honoree, Brittany Doughty, is the perfect example of quiet strength, dedication, and leadership in action.
Since earning her business administration degree from the University of Mary Washington in 2018, Brittany has quickly risen through the ranks at Cary Street Partners, now serving as a financial advisor and assistant vice president. Her commitment to growth, both personally and professionally, has been evident from the start.
Brittany’s impact extends beyond her career. She serves as an adjunct professor at UMW, teaching students about personal finance, and is a graduate of the Leadership Fredericksburg program. She currently leads as president of the Rappahannock-Fredericksburg Rotary Satellite Club, embodying the Rotary motto, Service Above Self.
Her inner radiance, calm demeanor, and consistent work ethic inspire all who meet her. Brittany’s future is undoubtedly bright, and we are thrilled to see what she accomplishes next. Congratulations, Brittany, on this well-earned honor!
