FREDERICKSBURG, VA — April 27, 2026 — Tian Construction, a Fredericksburgbased, woman- and minority-owned firm, is proud to announce it has been honored with the 2026 SWaMmy Honors. This celebration, which recognizes small businesses from across the Commonwealth of Virginia, honors firms that have demonstrated the profound impact of SWaM certification on their growth, operational success, and community contributions.
A Hometown Return
Founded in 2024 by Zhen (Ruby) Tian, the firm bridges the gap between design and construction. A graduate of Fredericksburg Christian School, Ruby Tian returned to her roots to launch the company after earning a Bachelor of Architecture from Pratt Institute and a Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Stanford University.
“Growing up in this area, it was always my goal to contribute to the community that shaped me,” said Ruby Tian. “Receiving the 2026 SWaMmy Honors is a testament to the hard work of our team and the incredible support we’ve received through Virginia’s SWaM program. It validates the power of this certification in helping small firms scale and deliver meaningful public impact.”
Innovative Public Impact
Tian Construction has quickly established itself as a reliable public-sector partner. The firm recently served as a specialized construction partner alongside Landivar & Associates, LLC on the $1.9 million renovation of Gladys West Elementary School in the City of Fredericksburg. This collaborative approach was key to minimizing change orders and ensuring budget certainty for the project.
Beyond successful project delivery, Tian Construction is dedicated to workforce development. During the Gladys West project, the firm provided approximately 280 hours of on-the-job training to local trade students, helping bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional practice.
