Fredericksburg, VA, (April 1, 2024) – In the spirit of Easter, Mary Washington Healthcare (MWHC) is spreading joy and hope to vulnerable children in the Fredericksburg area through over 450 donated Easter baskets. This annual initiative aims to ensure that children in need receive treat-filled baskets during this holiday season. Since the program’s inception, MWHC has collected more than 5,700 Easter baskets for distribution throughout Fredericksburg and the surrounding counties.

For the past 11 years, MWHC has partnered with social service organizations in the City of Fredericksburg as well as Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, and Caroline counties to support those in need. Jennifer Maxwell, executive assistant of hospital operations at Stafford Hospital, has played a pivotal role in coordinating Easter basket drives across various departments during her seven-year tenure.

Rebecca Fizer and Laura Ward, from MWHC’s Administrative Professionals of Excellence (APEX) department, spearheaded the Easter basket collection efforts at the Mary Washington Hospital collection location.

Reflecting on her six years with the organization, Fizer expressed her delight in witnessing the abundant generosity of associates. “Putting smiles on kids’ faces makes me feel accomplished and grateful. I love supporting the community,” she said.

Ward, who previously worked as a daycare teacher before joining MWHC 10 months ago, expressed her appreciation for the undertaking. “It’s truly touching to witness the time and effort that people invest in the baskets,” Ward said.

MWHC’s annual holiday drives have become a cherished tradition for both the organization and the community. The initiative not only brings joy to children but also fosters a sense of unity and compassion among MWHC associates.
