Fredericksburg, VA (March 3, 2025) – Mary Washington Healthcare (MWHC) is proud to announce the appointment of Christopher Newman, MD, MBA as its new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Dr. Newman has served as MWHC’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Medical Officer since 2019.

In his time at MWHC, Dr. Newman’s leadership and vision have helped drive improvements in patient care, operations, and strategic initiatives. Before joining MWHC, Dr. Newman served as the Chief Medical Officer for Penn State Health St. Joseph Regional Health Network and led operations for Penn State Health’s Medical Group. He earned his medical degree from Georgetown University and completed his residency in internal medicine at Georgetown University Medical Center. Additionally, Dr. Newman holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.

As President and CEO, Dr. Newman is committed to building upon MWHC’s strong foundation, continuing its growth as a thriving, non-profit healthcare system. Under his leadership, MWHC will continue to expand its academic facilities, enhance technology, and provide the community with exceptional care close to home.
