The Healing Station is a community-based mental health counseling center committed to providing accessible, compassionate, and culturally responsive care to individuals and families throughout Planning District 16, including the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Stafford, King George, Spotsylvania, and Caroline.

The organization was inspired by a growing and urgent need within the community. Too many individuals were struggling in silence or facing long waitlists, high costs, and limited options for mental health care, especially during times of crisis or emotional distress. The Healing Station was created to offer a safe and welcoming space where people can receive timely support without unnecessary barriers.

The mission is twofold: to expand access to quality mental health services and to strengthen the local behavioral health workforce. Through affordable counseling and a clinical training program for pre-licensed clinicians, The Healing Station addresses both immediate needs and long-term sustainability. Their goal is to promote emotional wellness, restore hope, and empower individuals and families to thrive.

What services do you provide and who do you serve?

The Healing Station offers a range of counseling and support services designed to meet the diverse needs of the community. Services include individual counseling, family therapy, and youth counseling, addressing concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, stress management, life transitions, and relationship challenges. Faith-integrated counseling is also available upon request.

The center serves children, adolescents, adults, and families throughout Planning District 16. There is a strong commitment to supporting individuals who are uninsured, underinsured, or facing barriers to accessing traditional mental health care. Services are inclusive, supportive, and responsive to the needs of the local community.

How do you approach whole-person healing?

At The Healing Station, healing is most effective when the whole person is considered. Care is centered on emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being, with clinicians meeting each individual where they are and honoring their experiences, values, and beliefs.

By addressing emotional health, thought patterns, relationships, and spiritual wellness together, clients are supported in building resilience, gaining clarity, and developing practical tools to navigate life’s challenges. The goal extends beyond symptom relief to lasting healing that empowers individuals to thrive in every area of life.

What does evidence-based care mean in your practice?

Evidence-based care means using counseling approaches grounded in research and proven to be effective, while still tailoring treatment to each individual and family. Rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all model, clinicians draw from well-established therapeutic methods that support emotional regulation, trauma recovery, improved relationships, and overall mental wellness.

For clients, this approach provides both confidence and consistency. It ensures that care is compassionate and clinically sound, helping individuals and families build practical coping skills and experience meaningful, lasting healing.

What common challenges are people facing right now?

Many individuals and families today feel overwhelmed emotionally, mentally, and relationally. Anxiety, unresolved stress, and uncertainty weigh heavily while daily responsibilities continue. Often people sense that something is not right, but feel unsure where to turn or hesitant to ask for help.

The Healing Station helps clients take the first step by offering a welcoming, nonjudgmental environment where honesty and vulnerability are met with compassion. From the initial outreach, the focus is on responsiveness and clarity so the process feels approachable rather than intimidating. Clients are reminded that they do not have to navigate life’s challenges alone and that seeking help is a powerful act of self-care.

What would you want someone considering counseling for the first time to know?

For anyone considering counseling for the first time, The Healing Station wants them to know this is a safe, welcoming, and judgment-free space. It is completely normal to feel nervous about opening up, and there is no expectation to have everything figured out before beginning.

From the first interaction, clients are treated with dignity, compassion, and respect. Clinicians listen before they lead and move at a pace that feels comfortable. Care is client-centered, meaning each person’s voice, goals, and boundaries truly matter.
