Kaitlynn Snell – 2024 Workforce NOW Scholarship Recipient

“With your support I am one step closer to accomplishing my dream and goals.”

My name is Kaitlynn Snell, and I had the honor of being selected as a 2024 Workforce NOW Scholarship recipient. When I received the email asking for an update on how the scholarship has impacted me, I was thrilled to share my journey.

I’m currently attending Christopher Newport University, majoring in psychology with plans to minor in child life. A year ago, I could hardly take two steps on my own—maybe ten with help. Today, I’m walking through stores and across campus with the help of crutches and foot braces, typically once a week or every other week.

Academically, I’m proud to say I made the dean’s list during both of my first two semesters! I’ve also immersed myself in campus life—joining clubs, becoming an advocate for disability inclusion, and even serving as the social media chair for the Disabled Student Union.

As I begin my sophomore year, I plan to continue my disability advocacy work and remain active in student organizations. I’m also setting my sights on making the dean’s list at least once again this academic year.

To the Chamber members and sponsors who made this scholarship possible: thank you from the bottom of my heart. Trying to afford an education is incredibly stressful—especially when you’re navigating medical challenges. I knew I had the drive and the passion to succeed in college—I just needed help getting there. Your support has truly made a difference.

My dream is to become a play therapist, helping children navigate mental health challenges through therapeutic play. That may sound simple, but for kids in communities where access to mental health care is limited, it’s life-changing. Thank you for helping me take one step closer to making that dream a reality.
